For my study into media, I have been asked to create a swede of a movie trailer. A swede is known as a 'naff' remake, or to put it into easier terms, copying something and recreating it in a bad way. For this task I have been working with my classmate Ellinor Lennie and together we decided to swede The Maze Runner, a 2014 movie based on the novel by James Dashner. We both decided on this film as it a film we both know very well and would also enjoy working with.
As our trailer is a 'naff' remake, we haven't used expensive and stylish props - all we have used is a camera and basic resources like paper and whiteboards. This gave us an insight into what it is like to star in and create a film on a low budget and how it isn't as easy as we thought it would be.
There were also some dilemmas along the way, for example, there were some time constraints as we had to work around each others timetables during school time and figure out when we were both free to film which was fairly difficult. Furthermore, as we mainly filmed in school, it was quite challenging to find a decent location to film in as there were students and teachers around us quite a bit of the time which did get in the way. Not only this, we also faced a big dilemma closer the end of our filming: after filming a scene, we went to look at what we had filmed so far to find all of our footage had disappeared and we didn't think we would be able to retrieve it. However, we simply took the memory card out and placed it back in and luckily our footage was still there.
After everything was edited and the trailer was complete, we began to look towards social media for help, creating a Facebook page and a Twitter page. Although we created two pages, we mainly used the Facebook page as Twitter couldn't be accessed during school times. We posted regular updates to when our trailer would be coming out and managed to get many of our Facebook friends to like our page, making it gradually more popular. When we were ready, we distributed our swede to YouTube, posting the video link on Facebook and sending it to our friends, using social media as our main form of communication.
